Our Vision and Mission

In May of 1989, Bill, a California native, graduated from Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas, Texas. By September he had arrived in Morelia, Michoacán, in the highlands west of Mexico City, to serve as a missionary. It was there he met his soon-to-be wife Mary, a resident of Morelia with a heart for God. A year later, in October of 1990, they were married. Larissa and Miqueas followed soon after and grew up “in the church.”

After several years serving under other missionaries, Bill and Mary set out on their own.Once the church was established, they returned to Morelia in 2001 to establish Koinonia Church, located for the past 10 years in a working-class neighborhood of Mary’s home town. They have served as Koinonia’s pastors and shepherded its growth since then.

The Smith children, now grown, dedicated their lives to Christ and are following in their parents’ footsteps. Today, Larissa serves as the church’s youth pastor and Miqueas serves as its worship pastor.

    Bill Smith

Born and rescued in South Cali. I was introduced to the gospel message at the baptist church in Westminster, Cali at the age of 8. During my teens and twenties I was very active in sports for several years, I race motorcycles and at the age of 26 I had a powerful encounter with the Lord while attending an Assembly of God Church in Dallas, TX. There was an opportunity to visit Mexico for a missions trip. In preparation for the trip I had encounter with the Lord that set the path for the rest of my life. I’ve been a missionary since 1989, graduating for CFNI (Christ for the Nations) in Dallas. In the spring of 1989 I moved to Mexico, since then I’ve served in many different capacities, planted two churches and currently I’m the lead pastor in Koinonia Church, Mexico.

I am the oldest sister in my family of five, I’m a Mexican, I was born in Mexico City and at the age of sixteen years old I moved to Morelia. I worked with my dad in his business for several years. I got married when I was 23 and currently I am the lead pastor of Koinonia Church. My heart is to reach the children and women in our neighborhood and see my city changed.

    Larissa Smith

I’m the youth pastor at Koinonia Church, helping teens develop a relationship with Christ and a love for the bible. Not too long ago, I had the opportunity to finish three years at Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry. I dream of seeing a generation of young Mexicans fulfilling their potential in God and transforming their city through the Culture of the Kingdom.

    Miqueas Smith

I’m the worship leader at Koinonia Church, I see a local church that is strong in identity and purpose, full of people of all ages, social and economic background, united in one heart: Worship God and Serve people. I believe that God has called the church to be a center of restoration, that no matter what has happened in the lives of people, we should receive with open arms and with sincere love, as our Father has received us..
